Your challenge

As a junior researcher you will be a key supporting player in developing, executing and validating our innovative image processing pipelines. You will have the exceptional opportunity to work with the extreme complexity and heterogeneity of large real world clinical trial datasets. It is your mission to translate clinical questions in the field into technical solutions. Obtaining optimal results is in your nature, for example using artificial intelligence and deep learning.

You will be part of our translational and multidisciplinary clinical neuroscience team; which is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with practicing modern neuroscientific research. Preparing reports for conferences or publications in international journals is part of this position.

What you can expect from us
Compared to other job positions in data analysis, we offer a position with access to uniquely large imaging datasets and a direct aim of improving research and patient care. You will be welcomed in a young research team with highly motivated scientists with different backgrounds.

Your profile

We are looking for a motivated junior researcher who has obtained (or almost obtained) a Master’s degree in biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, or a related field, with an interest in image analysis, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

In addition, you meet the following requirements:

  • Programming experience is a must (i.e., shell, Python, Matlab);
  • Experience with medical image analysis is a significant advantage;
  • Excellent English skills (writing & speaking);
  • Positively-minded, eager to learn new approaches and ready for a challenge.

Do you have a flexibel and service mind-set and are you ready to support a team to translate clinical questions in the field into technical solutions? In that case you’re the candidate we’re looking for!

Your work environment

The position is embedded within the Advanced MRI unit for Neurological Diseases Amsterdam (AMDA), department of Anatomy and Neurosciences, Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc. We aim to better understand the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders, such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. In multiple research lines we have developed a number of innovative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data analysis techniques that significantly contributed to our understanding of these disorders. Now, the time is right to assess the value of these outcome measures in much larger clinical trials datasets.

We offer

Salary Scale 7: 2351 tot 3184 euro gross when employed full-time (depending on qualifications and experience).

In addition we offer:
